Asbestos Inspection
W&M conducts facility inspection surveys in accordance with EPA and/or state agency protocol. All sampling is performed by inspectors accredited and licensed professionals. Materials suspected of containing asbestos are sampled in such a manner as to minimize defacing of building components and disruption of building use patterns. Equipment used in sampling is thoroughly decontaminated following collection to prevent cross-contamination of samples. Chain-of-custody procedures are initiated after the sample is collected. Following sample recovery, samples are placed in secure containers and the sampled area is cleaned and sealed. Bulk samples are forwarded to an independent and licensed laboratory for analysis by polarized light microscopy. Supplemental analyses by electron microscopy or x-ray diffraction are also available as needed. Clients are provided with a summary report upon receipt of the laboratory results.
